Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front runner, was before the Benghazi House Select Committee and called it a long day. She participated in the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum on Friday morning. Even after 11 hours of work her voice was still hoarse. Clinton said she was happy to have got the answers. She affirms that the goal is to move from partisanship to
statesmanship. Campaign aides were happy with her presentation but said that the debate last week was a bigger success as it showcased her strength. The fundraising was at its best during 9 PM and 10 PM just while she was wrapping her testimony.

Hillary Clinton also focused on women’s rights and also touched on the political events that happened this week. She praised the vice president Joe Biden and said that history doesn’t stop with him despite him denying running for the president. She also subtly attacked her competitor Sen Bernie Sander who said all the shouting in the world” cannot put solve gun control issue. She countered the comment by saying that when women talk people think they are shouting. This came for a big appreciation for the women. The aides said that Clinton was calm and cool during the speech though they conveyed frustration over her ally Sidney Blumenthal.

The gun control issue has taken center stage with the Umpqua community college shoot out. The President Obama is in Roseburg, Oregon to meet the family members of the victim. This has given the administration an opportunity to reconsider the gun control proposal by introducing new guidelines for those licensed gun dealers. The new guidelines by the US Justice Department emphasized that not only the corporations but also the executives can be prosecuted for white collar crimes. The guidelines will be announced at the New York University Law Schools by the Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, who is the author of the memo that outlines the rules of federal prosecutors. The New York Times obtained the memo that came out in response to the criticism that Obama administration did not engage the individuals in financial meltdown during the housing crisis in 2008-2009 as well as in the corporate scandals reported the newspaper.

The Justice Department is clear in defining crime whether it is conducted in the board room or on the streets. She added that white collar crimes are not only for corporate entities but also for white collar employees. Yates added that the department wants to change the corporate culture especially by distinguishing the cost of wrongdoing instead of considering liability as a cost of business doing. Yates informed that corporate establishments cannot get brownie points for cooperating unless they come out with the employees that are responsible for the crime. Yates also made it clear that low level employees will not take the blame, especially in criminal cases.
